The HFA continues to grow its loan book in both the number of loans advanced as well as in diversity of loan types. The restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic caused a lagging effect on the number of AHB housing schemes completed in 2020. Notwithstanding this, €549 million was advanced to AHBs for the acquisition and new build of social housing developments in the year. The following showcases some of the schemes financed during the year.
This newly constructed scheme is home to over 100 people - a mix of both families and single people. The scheme comprises 18 two-bed and 20 three-bed houses, as well as 2 two-bed dwellings adapted specifically for residents with additional needs. Radharc an tSaile is a scheme of highly efficient A-rated homes located close to Kinsale town centre.
This scheme is a mix of 67 detached, semi-detached and terraced homes having an elevated position overlooking the town of Carrigaline, only 10 minutes from Cork City. The Brookhill scheme was officially opened by the Taoiseach in Dec 2020.
This development consisting of 69 homes in Kilbarry, Waterford City comprises a mix of 15 one- and two-bed apartments, and 54 two- and three-bed houses. The site is located within proximity to Waterford city centre and the homes have been built for general needs social housing.
This development of 42 homes and 1 community building at Market Green, Knockgriffin, Midelton, Co. Cork comprises 18 x two-bed and 24 x three-bed houses, all built for general needs housing. It is situated near to Midleton town centre and to the west of Market Green.
This scheme is centrally located in the town of Carrick-on-Suir. Mill Crescent is a modern high-quality scheme situated along Mill Street/ John Street and provides 22 units in a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom terrace houses. The heating system is an economical air to water heat pump system and the BER rating achieved is A2.
The original flat complex in St. Mary’s Mansions was built by Dublin Corporation over 70 years ago and has undergone a total refurbishment, bringing it up to current standards. This included the addition of two new floors to create 80 well-sized, high-quality modern apartments and duplexes. The regeneration of St. Mary’s Mansions was conceived as the first major redevelopment in the area following the publication of the Mulvey report in 2016. The report highlighted the need for action to make the North-East inner-city area a safe, attractive and vibrant living and working environment for the community and its families.
New Dolphin Park in Rialto is a development of 43 brand-new purpose-built homes for older persons. This A3-rated accommodation provides independent living and ageing in place for older people. This development is a regeneration project and houses pre-existing Dolphin Barn residents as well as new residents.
Raleigh Square is located within an established residential community on a small quiet square, 10 minutes from Crumlin Village. Raleigh Court consists of 33 newly built homes for older people. It comprises and 1- and 2-bedroom apartments situated around a landscaped communal courtyard, with a separate communal room for the residents. The A-rated homes utilise standard gas boilers coupled with solar panels.
The development of 46 Part V homes in Royal Canal Park, Dublin 15 comprises one-, two-and three-bedroom apartments. The site forms part of a bigger scheme and is located near Tolka Valley Park and is within close proximity to a number of schools, supermarkets and public transport system.
In 2020, Tooting Meadow development won the prestigious Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Public Choice Award, beating countrywide projects such as Kylemore Abbey, Museum of Literature & Trinity College Business School. This is a high-quality development of 15 homes located in the centre of the historic town of Drogheda. The original site housed a disused fire station which was becoming a blight on the streetscape.
The different accommodation types (three- and four-bed homes and one- and two-bed apartments) have allowed a mix of family housing and housing for single people in an aesthetically pleasing development in the heart of the town surrounded by all the amenities that Drogheda has to offer. Kerlogue Manor is located in Roxborough, just outside Wexford Town and, on completion will comprise 225 units providing a sustainable mix of social and private tenants. Túath is purchasing 9 x two-bed apartments with the rest of the units being a mix of two-, three- & four-bed homes. 44 homes have been delivered so far and the development will be complete shortly with a further 18 houses and 9 apartments being handed over.
Borris Meadows is a development of 36 homes located along Borris Road in a mainly residential area which is within easy access to Portlaoise town centre. The development comprises a total of 36 homes in a mix of 6 x two-bed, 26 x three-bed and 4 x four-bed homes. The houses were constructed off-site with steel frame by MHI based in Co. Cavan.
Baile an Rí in Ballinasloe is a development delivered in partnership with Clann, Ireland’s largest age-friendly housing provider. The development provides 17 newly constructed age-friendly homes for local residents on Galway County Council’s housing list. The scheme consists of one one-bed and 16 two-bed bungalows. Amenities available in the local area include healthcare, community services, shops, public transport, and sports clubs.
This scheme of 15 homes in Caireal Mor, Headford Road comprises a mix of two-, three- and four-bed houses and is located within close proximity to Castlegar Village, and a short drive away from Galway City Centre. The homes have been built for general needs housing.
Túath acquired 25 Part V units in Galway City with the first 14 x two-bed apartments completed in early 2020. The homes at the Sraith Fhada development in Doughiska, Galway City consists of a block of two-bedroom apartments over four floors, where Galway City Council provided an opportunity to refurbish an unfinished estate that have been lying incomplete for 12 years. The apartments have received significant upgrades and now fully comply with current standards providing quality, energy efficient homes for tenants.
This development of 50 homes at Kingscourt Road in Carrickmacross comprises a mix of two-, three- and four-bed semi-detached & terraced houses.
This scheme of 47 homes in Ballaghderg, Letterkenny comprises 38 x three-bed houses, 1 x four-bed house and 8 x two-bed apartments. The site is located within a 5-minute drive from Letterkenny town centre.
